Previous 221b: Of Mice and Men

Today's prompt: soup

________________________________________________

Easy as duck soup

Sherlock has several strange quirks when it comes to eating.

For example he refused to eat vegetables as a kid, claiming after tasting each one once that he didn’t like the taste of them except potatoes and tomatoes. His parents and teachers were short of growing desperate because on top of that he often refused to eat at all and was always very slim and pale.

One woman of the kitchen staff finally had enough and started hiding other vegetables in Sherlock’s mashed potatoes and tomato soup. Sherlock of course noticed at once but instead of being difficult he tried to taste each vegetable hidden in his nourishment. He started eating other soups as long as there were several vegetables in it and everything was puréed at the end.

He is still eating very irregularly and is picky about what is on his plate. Luckily he also still loves soup.

So whenever John feels like Sherlock needs an extra amount of vegetables in his diet he makes soup with several veggies in it. In case you are wondering how he found out about that little trick, Mycroft told him. For once John didn’t mind his meddling.

Today is one of those days and right now John is standing in the kitchen again, busy cutting up carrots, celery, peppers, potatoes and beetroot.

AN:
Today's prompt was 'soup'.

So, I get the feeling that not a lot of people are reading over here anymore. Since it's kinda time-consuming to post to two different places everyday, I'm thinking about just posting to AO3. Unless you prefer that I stay here? Thoughts anyone?

Clever woman! (The cook, I mean. But you too, actually!) "No, Sherlock, this is not a soup. This is a puzzle. Now deduce!"

In case you are wondering how he found out about that little trick, Mycroft told him.
Aww. I can imagine Mycroft saying that, as solemn as if it was a state secret. Also, yay for celery. :D

Do what is the easiest thing for you! As far as I'm concerned, I don't mind, I'll stalk you whenever you are. :D

'"No, Sherlock, this is not a soup. This is a puzzle. Now deduce!"'

This is golden. This should be in a fic. *Atlin looks at you significantly*

"I can imagine Mycroft saying that, as solemn as if it was a state secret."

No. Seriously. These two viewpoints are magnificent and a fic is needed with some urgency. Please?

Listen, why are you always throwing prompts about vegetables at me? First celery, now that... Is it because I have a food-related username or something? Anyway, look, you have the perfect person on hand. *looks at Anarion meaningfully* She writes about kid!Sherlock and about Mycroft and she takes prompts from you every day. Hey, Anarion, how would you feel about tiny!Sherlock, all unruly curls and tiny brows knitted, with maybe a sligth lisp: "This is thelery, it's obviouth John Nanny." Isn't it irresistible? Now write! Chop-chop!

OR, Atlin, *looks at Atlin meaningfully* it could be a new chapter of Feeding Sherlock. With an adult Sherlock. And for every vegetable he identifies in the soup he's allowed to do, er, an adult thing to John.

There, ladies. Your stories are more or less written. (The key words are "or less".) It's up to you now. *leaves whistling*

OMG, how did I not know that tiny!Sherlock needed a lisp? Thelery! *cute overload*

Sometimes the adult Sherlock needs a lisp too.
*looks meaningfully at Atlin*
*thinks that she did a lot of meaningful look tonight*

"Listen, why are you always throwing prompts about vegetables at me?"

Did you notice what you did with the last one? The thelergy—the celery one? Did you notice what you did with it?

And she asks why. *Harumph*

P.S. I really ought to revisit the lisp sometime soon...

I am here--
(I just do not comment much)

I do not often read at AO3, though I could learn

I just read a 221b about soup and I. loved. It.
It gave me so many lovely domestic feelings and aawww, thank you!

And now I'm craving soup... which makes a nice change from Chocolate Pudding, so thank you for that!

I read you here because this is where we 'met', and this is where I have you tracked... but I'm happy to switch to AO3 if required. I've pretty much abandoned LJ myself for publishing purposes - it just turns my entries into soup of the html variety lately; more hassle than it's worth!

I will now admit to reading these on whichever site I find your daily post first. However as long as you tell us on here that the post is up over there I don't think anyone will mind - after all, you're the one taking the time out of your day to delight and amuse us, we're all just grateful you do it, reagardless of the medium you use to share it.
Dear god, have I just swallowed some posh journalist speak dictionary? What I meant to say was - love these, don't care where you post them as long as I can find them. Oh, and that this is now my head cannon for Sherlock's eating habits :)

221 words about soup later I'm really craving for one myself and have a sweet picture in my mind of a little Sherlock, enjoying a plate of tomato soup!

I'm on Ao3 as well and find it a bit better to handle. So see you there, or here, or wherever. I think you don't get rid of me that easily! ;)

Oh, please keep posting here, too! I honesty didn't even know you were cross-posting and I know it's extra work, but it would be a pity to leave your epic collection of 221Bs incomplete on LiveJournal.
I check for an update from you every day and I'm already dreading the time when the year is over. But of course I will follow you wherever you choose to continue these little treasures.

I too really like the idea of Mycroft passing this information on to John, it's...warm. Like soup!

Also I will read your work wherever it's posted though I do love LJ for the comment threads that seem to sometimes develop. As one is about to do when I reply to Chocola!

It's again, is just too cute for words <3 I love the little windows you open to their childhood!

I just discoverd AO3 a week ago but I can move there if you decide to go. But will you there have your excellent tags? I'd be sad never see them again ;) But I sure will follow you everywhere :D

Wow, lots of comments! That's what happens when you threaten to abandon us, ehm, LJ.

Now I'll sit here waiting for all those meaningful looks to bear fruit.

First: Don't leave, please!

Second: Actually, this elaboration of the prompt given is something I am very familiar with, given the fact that my elder daughter has Asperger's syndrome and thus she's VERY reluctant to eat and the only veggies she accepts are pureed tomatoes (in bolognese sauce) and grilled spinach (not pureed, whole leaves, oddly enough). Sometimes I use the trick of "smuggling" other veggies in her pasta bolognese too:)
