Previous 221b: Desires are nourished by delays

Today's prompt: divorce

________________________________________________

The morning after

Sherlock opens his eyes to a close view of ash blond hair. He burrows his nose in it for a moment, but his brain is already way too busy for him to lie still. He carefully untangles himself from his lover – no, husband now - and walks over to the living room, where he flops down on the sofa.

He raises his newly beringed hand and looks at the ring on his third finger, slowly turning it with his other hand. He still isn’t sure if he can believe it. That someone, anyone, would want to marry him is a strange thought alone but that that someone would be John is a miracle.

John, who is now slowly padding into the room and after one look kneels down in front of Sherlock.

“Second thoughts?” Only half-joking.

“Never.”

“Then what?”

“I can’t promise you that I won’t do something extremely stupid ever again.”

He doesn’t say that he refers to the events that led to John leaving him or that John leaving him now, after promising him forever would be intolerable and devastating. Luckily John understands nevertheless.

“I know you can’t. And I can’t promise that I won’t ever need some space again after you did it. But I will never leave you again. I promise that. Being without you is not bearable.”

Next 221b: I won't come quietly

AN:
Today's prompt was 'divorce'.
This thing practically wrote itself. Except for the last sentence. I couldn't think of a fitting sentence with a b-word for this. I'm not really happy with the ending, but well, it's the best I could do.

I'm not sure if there isn't one negative too many in the 'I can't promise you' sentences. *is confused*
Is the right hand the one you wear your wedding ring on in the UK?
Never mind, I changed it.

Also, I have an 'orgasms', a 'phonesex' and a 'masturbation' tag, but no 'marriage' tag.
Priorities. I have them! :D

I like the ending :)
And in the UK we wear wedding rings on our left hands.

D'aww! That's gorgeous!

Het couples wear wedding rings on their left hand in the UK. Not sure about gay couples - I seem to recall that in the past it was more traditional for them to wear rings on their right hands but I think it's a matter of personal choice nowadays. I actually asked a friend about this when I was writing Something New and she said that she knew two gay couples, one of whom had their rings on their left and the other on their right. In the end I bottled out and simply put, "... sliding the band onto his finger"!

Are you told often enough that this project of yours is fantastic? And you're an adorable writer :)

Honestly, as much as I'm looking forward to reading all these little wonders in the right chronological order one day, I enjoy having a seemingly random snippet from the big picture every day right now.
And I admit it bothers me a bit that I won't be able to get my daily fix from Thursday on for a whole week, due to a holiday (to which I'm looking forward to nevertheless). But internet in the hotel or via my smartphone is just too expensive to use it every day. But since I'm a happy addict, I'll probably try to get online after a few days anyway.

Well, I've got a couple of days left to eagerly wait for your updates, and I will happily read them all - no matter if they are sad or sweet or funny or something in between.

Um, if you just received an anonymous comment full of praise, that was me - I honestly thought I was logged in ;)

the ring on his third finger
First I was a little confused here because in French we never call the ring finger this way, and I wondered why Sherlock had his ring on his middle finger, if it was a British thing, or maybe a gay thing. :D

That someone, anyone, would want to marry him is a strange thought alone but that that someone would be John is a miracle.
Aww. Insecure!Sherlock... And a nice nod to the conversation between John and Greg in Otherwise Engaged.

“Second thoughts?” Only half-joking.
Ah, insecure!John now. Can I say "Aww" again?

the events that led to John leaving him
Aaand another nod, to the brilliant I Watch You While You Sleep this time. I like the way you build your verse.

John leaving him now, after promising him forever would be intolerable and devastating.
For the last time (in this 221B), aww. Heartbreaking.

*reads the end*
Okay, I take back what I've just said. Awwww! Why don't you like this end, it's beautiful!

I love the "sherlock having thinky though" tag, and yay for the "marriage" tag! If you want to tag all the 221Bs about Sherlock and John's marriage with it, I'll be glad to help you find them again! After all I asked for that tag, now I must deal with the consequences! :D By the way, speaking of tag, the "Today's prompt" thing before the fic says "ash". And, speaking of ash, you managed to slip in "ash" and "spaceship", there are still "pickle" and "blowjob" left! :D

You have the keenest eyes ever!

Oh Lord, yeah. The re-tagging. I still need to do that with the 'orgasms' tag as well. *needs a day with 48 hours*

Oh, that threw me, because I sprinted here after reading yesterday's 'sex on the horizon' and seeing that the next one was called 'The Morning After'. Stupid assumption - but I'm glad that I ran because this is beautiful!
