In sickness and health

John is a very healthy person. Despite being a doctor and dealing with sick people all the time he himself is rarely sick.

He actually did not fall ill post-Afghanistan until after he and Sherlock got together. So when he finally did, Sherlock kind of lost it a little.

He helped John settle down on the sofa and then continued to bring blankets and new cups of tea every ten minutes until John asked him to stop.

He wanted to know if John felt better every three minutes until John asked him to stop.

He then started to suggest things that might help John get better.

“Would sex help?”

“No, Sherlock. Sex would not help.”

“You wouldn’t have to do a thing. Or I could just...”

“Sherlock, for the love of God. Please shut up. I know that you are just trying to help, but you are driving me crazy. Just sit down.”

Sherlock sat down next to John and manoeuvred both of them until John was lying on the sofa, his head in Sherlock’s lap. The telly was on, but muted, and Sherlock tried really hard not to say anything.

“Relax”, whispered John.

And Sherlock did. He gently drew abstract patterns on John’s back and after a while both fell asleep. When they woke again, John was feeling much better.

Yep. Poor Sherlock.

Poor John.

The rule from month three of my first pregnancy, and through the successive two pregnancies was "I will tell you if I am not OK. You do not need to ask me if I am OK every time I sigh, twitch, shift my weight, or blink. Please do not ask me if I am OK". So I can completely feel John's pain.

I'm glad they found a way for them both to be comforted; just being near each other sometimes helps. (The only thing that worked in my situation was to stop getting pregnant)

Awww... So sweet! ( I can see Mrs H sneaking in and taking a snapshot of these two on the couch, both snoring slightly - only slightly, mind...)

It must be a medical professional thing, the dislike of hovering caretakers, because I have it too.
Not that I'd say no to being handed warm beverages now and then, but for the most part, when I am sick, leave me alone in my misery.

Aww... that's so... lovely-cuddly-squiggly-adorable.

It's really well done, how you make us feel for both of them at the same time - there's no side to be taken, we can see each perfectly clearly.

Excellent ficcery!

Awww, it's so sweet! Poor Sherlock, it's so hard to feel helpless when someone you love is vulnerable. I love Sherlock tried really hard not to say anything, it must be even harder! As it must be hard for you to write things like:
“Would sex help?”
“No, Sherlock. Sex would not help.”

*pats Anarion*

Also, yes, I know I wrote hard three times, but you know me, I'm quite impervious to innuendos. ;-)

So sweet! Poor John just wants to be left alone with his misery and Poor Sherlock is so worried that he's hovering liek whoa. They both obviously needed that little nap n' cuddle. :)

See I get Sherlock's point of view here very much. John's less so. I've just finally gotten over a week long stomach virus, the worst I've ever experienced, and for me, every minute my hubby wasn't spending worrying about me and trying to make me feel better was a wasted minute of his time (I'm very clingy when I'm sick...)

Aaww, so Sherlock! John's patience and love really is admirable. I love this moment, especially the last scene - it's heart-warming!
