Fic: 221B - Great expectations

Title: Great expectations
Words: a 221B has 221 words and ends with a b-word
Rating: PG-13
Pairings : Sherlock/John
Warnings: none
Disclaimer: Not mine.

Summary: ‘365 days of 221Bs’ challenge: a prompt a day, given by [livejournal.com profile] atlinmerrick.

Previous 221b: Wait a minute, Mister Postman

Today's prompt: How Sherlock thought the first kiss would happen

________________________________________________

Great expectations

Sherlock had never expected it to go this way.

He had done probability calculations of course and had come up with the two most probable scenarios.

a) Since John thrives on adrenaline, it would happen after a chase or the spectacular ending of a case. John would look at him and then pounce. Sherlock has for some reason always fancied the hallway for this scenario.

b) Since John’s a very private person, it was just as likely to happen in a quiet moment at home. After one of those moments when Sherlock says something that John finds endearing, he would smile that smile and instead of getting up to make tea he would walk over and kiss him.

None of the scenarios Sherlock came up with was like this though. John kissing him at a crime scene in front of everybody and then just stopping. And now...

Now John is just standing there and doing nothing and how is he supposed to know what to do, this is John’s field of experience and he feels like he is about to jump out of his skin and something really needs to happen here.

“John.”

John looks at him, and suddenly it's easy, John's in his personal space and they're talking and then kissing and walking backwards until his legs hit the bed.

Next 221b: Scars are forever

AN:
Today's prompt was 'How Sherlock thought the first kiss would happen'.

This is Sherlock's POV of As Long as Necessary and the accompanying piece to And the lilies so fair.

I remember that in my comment to And the lilies so fair I wondered how Sherlock thought how the first kiss would happen, and now you tell us! Brilliant! (Yes, I know you do it because Atlin said it was a prompt, but still! :D)

He had done probability calculations of course
I love of course. So Sherlock!

John would look at him and then pounce.
I like the image of John pouncing on Sherlock to kiss him. Yay for BAMF!John! :D

Sherlock has for some reason always fancied the hallway for this scenario.
Probably because he read The Heart in the Whole.

After one of those moments when Sherlock says something that John finds endearing, he would smile that smile and instead of getting up to make tea he would walk over and kiss him.
Awww. Damnit, I want to read that version now. Why the hell is it impossible to have two first kiss? :D

John looks at him, and suddenly it's easy, John's in his personal space and they're talking and then kissing and walking backwards until his legs hit the bed.
All together now: WE WANT THE SEQUEL!!! The first time in bed! *is over-demanding*

Lovely and sweet and I love it. And I also love that you wrote THREE 221Bs about the same kiss. You spoil us! *has a thing about kisses*

I'm not sure but, since you tell the story in the present, it may be better if it was "Sherlock never expected it to go this way" or "Sherlock would never have expected it to go this way" and "He did probability calculations of course and came up". But I'm not sure! :-)

Sorry, need a moment to jump around and *squee* 'cause three variations on Sherlock's point of view!
(Oh, HI! sorry, haven't been commenting but, squirrel versus cable line{squirrel lost}meant no internet for a weekish.(now have squirrel skull so, bright spot?}

'He had done probability calculations of course and had come up with the two most probable scenarios.'
(that's so Sherlocky, yes is it is *squees*)

'a) Since John thrives on adrenaline, it would happen after a chase or the spectacular ending of a case. John would look at him and then pounce. Sherlock has for some reason always fancied the hallway for this scenario.'
(AU, AU, AU. 'cause that's the only way we'd get that scenario now{sorry}

(Your fault though 'cause that is a pretty image. Also 'always fancied the hallway' OMG!)

'Now John is just standing there and doing nothing and how is he supposed to know what to do, this is John’s field of experience and he feels like he is about to jump out of his skin and something really needs to happen here.'
(Insecure sherlock breaks my heart every time. Still want to hunt down and slap certain someone(someones)...'kay said that before, and still, GRRRRRRRRRR!)

“John.”(and since I've already repeated myself, don't need the other 220B words just that one. A picture might be worth a thousand words but the way Sherlock uses that one word is an entire language in itself.) Also *melting squee*

'John looks at him, and suddenly it's easy, John's in his personal space and they're talking and then kissing and walking backwards until his legs hit the bed.'
(Okey-Dokey am being selfish and demanding 'specially since since you've spoiled us past reason with this but, Sequel? Yea, I feel guilty asking but still asking.(is ashamed.)

Edit the second. LJ is being very strange put edit in middle of comment. So, try again. Meant three variations of first kiss not Sherlock's POV of. Still over-excited + out of practice = *headdesk*(and really, really sorry)

And... we have a new favourite!

This is absolutely gorgeous - I've read it half a dozen times already and feel confident that I'll read it at least a dozen more.

Perfection in 221 words :D

This is just lovely. I'll take turns with Purrculier1 beating the tar out of anyone who made our lovely Sherlock so nervous and doubting.

The fun part? I've read it about 5 times, and each time his voice sounds a bit different, and so much meaning infuses that single word on every reading.
Insecurity
Wonder

Curiousity
Amazement

It always delights me when Sherlock's big brain gets things wrong...there's something child-like about him in those times and that's a huge part of his appeal, the soft uncertainty beneath the arrogant confidence. You've captured that wonderfully here!
