Today's prompt: wallpaper

And the lilies so fair


He stands in the middle of his own living room and feels more lost than ever. That’s not how he thought this would happen.

His mind jumps back. John kissed him. ’As if you didn’t know.’

He did know. He waited for this a long time. But now? After that kiss? How is he supposed to know what to do now? John is the one who should know what to do, but he is just standing there, looking at Sherlock as if he has no clue how they got here.

Maybe it was a mistake. Maybe he is already regretting the kiss and just trying to figure out how to tell Sherlock.

He stares at the fleur-de-lys wallpaper and tries to come up with something to say. Something like ‘It’s fine, we can just forget about it, it didn’t mean a thing.’ But when he opens his mouth all that comes out is ‘John.’

And somehow that sets it right again, John shifts back from being helpless to being John-who-knows-what-to-do and he straightens his back and steps over to Sherlock.

He is talking though and Sherlock is still waiting, waiting like he has for a long time. And then – finally – the waiting is over because John is kissing him again. He sighs, relieved and happy. And then he kisses John back.

I love that Sherlock notices that John is talking but is too overwhelmed to really pay attention to what he's saying. And I wonder what John is saying...

It's so moving and so lovely and beautiful and have I said I love it? Because I love it! And it's for me! *smiles like a loony*

Never say again you're hopeless with titles. This one is beautiful and you've taken it from a song which is all about Sherlock! I mean, "raven black hair", "pale", "eyes look like blue"... It's Sherlock. Obviously. And the end is all about The Reichenbach Fall:

"Oh he taught me to love him and promised to love
And to cherish me over all others above
How my heart is now wondering no misery can tell
He's left me no warning no words of farewell"

What do you mean, "Everything is not always related to Sherlock"? :D Also, there's "my laugh shall be gay" in the song. *sniggers*

*facepalms* I had completely forgotten this 221B! You know, you should add the link in your AN, because it's great to read the two fics together and to have the two POV, it makes you enjoy this one even better. For example, when I read "He is talking though and Sherlock is still waiting, waiting like he has for a long time" yesterday, I thought Sherlock heard John's voice but didn't really understand what he was saying because he was too emotional, but after re-reading As Long as Necessary I see he understands him and answers him, and his answers in As Long as Necessary make this fic (I mean And the lilies so fair) even more moving. I also thought Sherlock had been "waiting, waiting like he has for a long time", since the kiss at the crime scene, for John to do something, to kiss him again or to reject him, and now I understand you talk about him waiting for months, for John to realise he was in love with Sherlock, and it's even better. The two fics are like a diptych, they make each other more beautiful, and to my mind a link in each one to the other would allow oublivious people like me to see how good they are. But it's your fics, you can do what you want! :D Right, I stop rambling now.

Also, *have not finished rambling actually* I should say, "Yes, I'm amazing, I know, I recognized the song at once", but, er... I must confess that I didn't know the song; I just found the title beautiful and poetical, I thought you might have taken it from a poem and I googled it to check. Then I read the lyrics of the song and there was Sherlock written all over them. :D

John shifts back from being helpless to being John-who-knows-what-to-do and he straightens his back and steps over to Sherlock.
(I may have fist-pumped the air, 'cause Jesus, that was so in character.)

Then, Oh God, that kiss and kissing back and you can feel the sense of relief and the rightness of it.

Aaaaawwww so lovely!!! I absolutely loved how Sherlock's mouth was quicker, and...knowinger (if that's a word) then is confused mind and I love how right ot felt in the end for him.
And I totally loved how Sherlock experienced John's 'change' back to John-who-knows-what-to-do.
