Today's prompt: waiting

Miscalculation

Sherlock did not wait for anyone. Not even John.

He frequently left him behind at crime scenes when he had an epiphany and listened to the usual scolding from John afterwards.

Until that Tuesday, when he severely miscalculated the risks and nearly got decapitated with a katana.

When John came to the hospital to take him home he was unusually quiet and Sherlock knew it was bad. He actually felt the need to apologise, something that did not normally happen.

“John, I didn’t mean to...”

“Yeah, you never do. And yet it happens. All the fucking time. If you do this again, if you leave me behind to go off on your own one more time, I will pack my bags and I will walk out of here. It will kill me, but I will do it. Do you hear me?”

His voice was quiet, frighteningly quiet.

“Yes. I hear you.” Sherlock whispered.

“Good.”

But it wasn’t. Sherlock could feel it. John was still so deeply hurt and so very angry. His lips were white because he pressed them together tightly and his fingers were white too, clenched into fists at his side. He turned, walked out and ended up being silent for three days.

These were the worst days of Sherlock’s life. Until he managed to do something equally bad.

AN:
Today's prompt was 'waiting'.

Sorry for the hurt. But you knew this was coming eventually... And John forgave him after three days.
[Also, wow, Atlin, is it something in the air that we are both posting about Sherlock doing something really bad and John being so angry he goes silent on the same fucking day? *is amazed and a little scared*]

OW! OW! OW! OW!
You and Atlin are turning me into a masochist. Really, warned it's angstey, warned it will hurt, given chance to run, and glomps onto fic like lamprey,'cause look who wrote it!

"His voice was quiet, frighteningly quiet." that line has so much power to it, it made me shake from sympathetic pain.(Trust Anarion)

Your Author's note, just want to hug you and stuff you full of chocolate for that sweet, reasuring, apologetic...But oh honey, reading it was so worth the pain. Really.*squishes you*

Instead of 'John comes back. John comes back. John comes back.' it is 'John will speak again. John will speak again. John will speak again.' ?! And once he does speak again, Sherlock will just do it all over again?

Maybe both you and Atlin should start a business with selling orange coloured shock blankets and tea, with a special discount for your readers?

But: wow, so much angst with just 221 words.

[identity profile] purrculier1.livejournal.com 2012-08-14 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, to Thessajensen's idea: orange shock blankets all around, but would substitute stiff drink, 'cause whiskey or brandy is usual prescription for shock, right? (*Blinks* Huh, I don't even drink, what have you done to me?)

You and Atlin today and yesterday Verity and now I'm ready to do really nasty things to Sherlock. What are you ppl thinking? I want John-comfort! A lot! Right now!

Read Atlin's. Read this. If anyone needs me I will be in my blanket fort.

It was hurty. The whole fic was hurty. And then...

"Until he managed to do something equally bad."

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. This isn't good. I don't like this. I HAVE ADVANCE SADS.

"It was hurty. The whole fic was hurty."
This time no...Sympathy?
Oh gleeps,*runs and hides*

You can not hide long purrculier1, I will find you and I will peeeench you so hard...

[identity profile] purrculier1.livejournal.com 2012-08-14 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)

*Smooches*

Ow. Ow. Silent scary (hurting) John, and all the angsty feels.

Bartender, a full round of brandies and extra cuddly shock blankets for the house!
:D

[identity profile] tracionn.livejournal.com 2012-08-14 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It hurts. So much. And three days are three days. *gulps heavily*
As always, it's so well done - wouldn't hurt so much if it werent ;)
So good to know John forgave him.
Do we know alreday what equally bad Sherlock did or is this a hurt yet to come? Sorry in case I forgotten!!

[identity profile] chocolamousse.livejournal.com 2012-08-14 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch. Painful. I'll read Atlin's angsty story later tonight but I consider yours as a warm-up. I can imagine John when he's quiet, frighteningly quiet. Scaring!

Until he managed to do something equally bad.
*puts her fingers in her ears*
I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THAT! I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THAT! Er... Will you tell us about that one day? :D

I think you and Atlin are mysteriously connected. Soon you'll be writing about stiletto heels and fine lingerie. Be scared!

Off-topic, I always read your weekly post to [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc because I love your summaries. This week: "Cone jealousy". *giggles hysterically*

You wrote "Sherock" in your AN! But it's better than "Shercock" anyway... :D

"Until he managed to do something equally bad."

I wonder if this means that John did something bad or Sherlock again - and in any case WHAT. But I'm more than confident you will tell us in time - or have already told us (I really need to reread your treasures), it's quite timey-whimey with you ;)

[identity profile] tialangela.livejournal.com 2012-08-17 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, that's it! First, Atlin, now you? (sorry, read hers first). Do you guys think I can forever blame my need for chocolate in this house on pms or what? Because hubby is not buying it (pun INTENDED) anymore! Gah!

Now, seriously, that last line sent shivers down my spine. Oh, Sherlock.
