Today's prompt: shooting star

Like daylight shooting stars

“Two weeks, John! You were gone for two weeks.”

John stared at his friend.

“And the only way you could deal with this was by buying a beehive? And setting it up in our living room? What are we going to do with them?”

“It was too quiet in the flat without you, the only thing I could hear were my thoughts. It was... not good. The bees helped. Don’t worry, they’re harmless. And I didn’t buy them, I borrowed them.”

“Oh, that’s a relief.” John shook his head. “Still. What were you thinking? We can’t even close the window.”

“It’s summer. We never close that window in the summer anyway.”

“Speaking of closing, I’m going to close my eyes for a while. Remember that I want to watch the Perseid meteor shower with you tonight. They are supposed to be really beautiful.”

“Isn’t that something one does with a girlfriend?”

“Yeah, do you remember how you got rid of the last one? Bad luck, now you will have to go with me.”

He lay down on the sofa. Sherlock was right though; the bees were calming. He watched them fly in and out of the window and buzzing over his head until he fell asleep to the soft clatter of Sherlock’s equipment and the equally soft humming of the bees.

AN:
Today's prompt was 'shooting star'.

I was not really happy with the 221B I wrote for this prompt, but then I saw [livejournal.com profile] mazarin221b's tumblr post with this picture (she was prompting people to use the little image cubes for a story) and everything fell into place:

Oh, I have those story-cubes, too ... all 3 sets. If you want, I gladly throw you some inspiration ;)

Nearly forgot ... how sweet of Sherlock to miss John that much. But where was he? Did he miss his Sherlock, too?

That's a lovely use of 'shooting star' - and a very nice snippet of their pre-couple life. I love the matter of fact way John points out that Sherlock got rid of his last girlfriend!

Oh, I didn't get an email re this one so LJ may be playing up again - just a heads up in case comments are delayed!

Beehive inside the flat? That is so Sherlock! And finding bees calming... well, okay, John lived in a warzone, so bees must seem like a nicety compared to gun- and mortar fire.

I really like John’s logic here: You got rid of my girlfriend ergo you have to watch the meteor shower with me! And no protests from Sherlock... wonder why?

Hahaha. *ahem*

I find bees calming. Wasps make me uneasy though...

There's something gentle and intense and sweet about this. Sherlock admitting that it mattered John was gone for two weeks and that he couldn't cope. John accepting that easily—more concerned with the presence of the bees, and then just John going to sleep. This one is homey in a sort of left-of-center way. It makes me content.

Have to agree with Maz, this is so sweet and domestic. They are so in a relationship, they just need to notice it.

I'm confused. Maz as in Mazarin221b? I didn't see a comment from her. *feels like she missed something*

And yes, they ARE in a relationship, whether one decides to take it in a slashy direction or not. *waves a flag for the first option*

*headdesk* That's why I shouldn't comment late at night (and yes, that was late for me) Of course I meant Atlin.

*and waves a second flag*

Aha! Sex on the horizon!
John stared at his friend.
His what? Damn.

It was too quiet in the flat without you, the only thing I could hear were my thoughts. It was... not good.
I love this explanation. And there's so much hidden angst behind this sober It was... not good.

“Yeah, do you remember how you got rid of the last one? Bad luck, now you will have to go with me."
AHA! SEX ON THE HORIZON! (I mean... one day!)

I think it should be "the Perseid (with a capital but without a "s") meteor shower". :-)

That was sweet and warmly domestic and slightly terrifying(am deathly allergic to beestings so *burrr*)

Sherlock missed John, actually noticed his being gone for two weeks
and needed to fill that John sized hole 'cause it was "...not good".(awwwww.and squeeee.)

John's rather calm acceptance of this, thinking about taking a nap,(with buzzing death in room with him{sorry, sorry})reminding Sherlock they have a date.(oops, tag says pre-slash.)

Make that, Sherlock will be going with him to watch the meteor showers 'cause he chased away last girlfriend.(really? Tag does say pre-slash,is confused. Forehead alll wrinkly.yup)

And then John falling asleep to the sound of Sherlock's puttering and humming bees 'cause he's back *HOME*

Sweet and cuddly and I just want to hug this to pieces.
Thank you,really thank you.
