What friends are for


It took a while for John to notice but once he did, he couldn’t not notice it.

Now and then, when the case was solved and they were just making some small talk and Lestrade seemed about to say something, Sherlock would cut him short and then walk away.

After he had witnessed that a few times, John decided to confront Sherlock about this.

“So. What’s going on with you and Greg?”

“Hm?”

“Uh, no. You of all people do not get to play stupid. You know exactly what I’m talking about. What do you not want him to say to me?”

Sherlock’s head came up very fast, indicating surprise and worry, and John realised that he had drawn the wrong conclusion.

“Oh. What do you not want him to say to you?”


He sighed. “He wants me to go looking for some trinket for Molly with him. He seems to have based that decision on the erroneous assumption that I would know what kind of jewellery she’d like.”

“Isn’t that nice? He values your opinion.”

Sherlock huffed and John let the matter drop.

Two weeks later Sherlock came home with a very grumpy look on his face.

“What happened?”

“Lestrade forced me to go shopping with him.”

“How?”

“That new exciting case we have? He threatened to have me banned.”

Oh, poor Sherlock *g*
I think it might be fun to go shopping jewellery with him. He would analyse all sorts of things an annoy the sales assistants by telling which gems are real or which pieces are poorly fabricated.
And when he is busy with being his annoying self, one could subtly stir him into looking for a nice bit of jewellery which he could give to John ;)

Aw, how cute is that? Greg knows Sherlock likes him and won't let him mess up and get something that isn't tasteful. But he also gets a little of his own back by forcing him to participate. Lucky Molly is getting herself one heck of a guy!

And Sherlock, afraid of what John might think is going on...sweet, sweet, man.

These never go where I expect. I love that. I also love the dialog. You could write dialog for 24 hours a day 7 days a week and I would be thrilled. This part stood out in that regard:

“Hm?”

Oh, that's great - I don't know what I adore more, Lestrade wanting Sherlock to help him in the first place... or his blackmailing him into it. Brilliant!

It's getting to point that I cheer almost as much when Lestrade or Molly appear, as I do for Sherlock and John.(almost)

Laughed at smart Lestrade using blackmail on Sherlock to get his help with an added Awww, at the reason he wanted that help.

You and the dialogue. Really, sometimes I get worried that I'm hearing voices in my head and then I realize"Oh right" you're reading Anarion's stuff no wonder they sound real.(snerk)

And look at all those pretty tags lined up like smorgasbord'. Really
some of them make little stories just being read together.
