Previous 221b: Caring Is Not an Advantage

Today's prompt: train

________________________________________________

Train of Thought

‘You know sometimes I have the feeling that I’m living together with a computer. Can’t you try being human at least now and then?’

John’s voice in his head. Hurt and tired. He knows that John doesn’t mean it but still can’t help hearing it again and again. He tries to THINK about something else.

Train: British Rail Class 222 // diesel-electric multiple unit high-speed train // capable of 125 mph // oldest railway system in the world note 1 // the world's first locomotive-hauled public railway opened in 1825 // DELETE

[Stop it. ]

[You are not a computer. This isn’t important.]

Case: murdered woman // brother had an affair // husband unfaithful but not the killer // two kids // someone unrelated broke in // she surprised him – boring // FILE AWAY

[Stop it. Now.]

Destination: London // capital city of England // largest urban zone in the European Union note 2 // located on the River Thames // major settlement for two millennia // founded by the Romans // BASIC KNOWLEDGE

[Restart. Try again. Try the human approach.]

Destination: Home // base // dwelling // habitation // ABORT

[What are you? A thesaurus? This isn't the human approach. Maybe John is right. I don't know how to be human.]

He looks out of the window and sees a small figure standing on the platform - John. And suddenly it’s easy.

Destination: Home // Warmth // John // Crucial - like the hive to the bee.

Next 221b: Kept within Bounds

AN:
Today's prompt was 'train'.

I played with different formating styles to highlight the different lines of thought. Hope it's not annoying.

I love the idea that there is a 'John commentary' playing in Sherlock's computer of a mind. The formatting styles worked, Sherlock's last idea of what home is was perfect. Lovely read!

Haha, suddenly you are back over here. ;)

Thank you so much, I'm happy that my little experiment worked! :)

How's your writing going?

It's going all right. I finished my Proposal piece and have done another 221B.

I've been having health issues for a bit and it's been affecting my ability to focus for a long time. Fingers crossed yesterday's appointment will work out well for me. :-D

Oh no, it's not annoying at all, it's original and very suggestive of the way Sherlock's brain works. Poor Sherlock, who believes he's not human because he's not like most human beings. This is rather angsty and sad (it reminds me of John calling Sherlock a "machine" in The Reichenbach Fall, argh) but the end is so sweet and heartwarming. Of course John is what makes him human and reminds him he has a heart on top of a brain. *clears her throat* Yes, that was me stating the obvious and being mushy, sorry. :D

Also, I love the last word. And I want to see the reunion scene! :D

Never apologise, that was wonderful to read! :)

As for the reunion: Well, there are still 11 months to go. Remind me in a few weeks if you haven't read anything until then. :)

You have the most brilliant ideas! Loved the structure of this one and loved how Sherlock thought about John words until he found his own solution. And most of all did I love (though I've no idea whether I got that right) the picture of Sherlock arriving with a train and John waiting for him on the platform. Despite his words because he's glad to give his warmth to Sherlock.
(God...sorry for rambling!!)

(PS And I still hope you at some point will post a file with just ALL of those your delights)

Oh yes, you got that totally right! :)

Sherlock thought about John words until he found his own solution.
You put that perfectly! <3

Thank you for this wonderful (and not rambling at all!) comment.

(Yes, I will! I promise.)

Awesome!

You're very welcome! I'm only saying what's true for me.
And am glad I got everything right :)

I was a little bit afraid reading this. How can you do angsty and loving and 221 words? Perfect way to show how much John grounded him. (that feels like very bad English)

Oh, darling, this is absolutely brilliant. The font-use is inspired and makes the story even more clever. I am in awe. *bows down to your genius*

That's really well done - I found it very easy to follow with the different fonts, you did a great job at getting into Sherlock's head and showing us what's going on there. Very clever!

That was great new and interesting approach to take us into a tour through Sherlock's head. Your stories certainly never get boring.

Ask Meg. Go ahead and ask her. Ask the dog snoozing against my leg what I've sat here saying over and over.

The answer's simple: "Oh my god." That. Again and again. Because this is flawless. This is absolutely without flaw. You've more or less written a computer for god's sake, and it's the most perfect Sherlock ever. This, Anarion, is without peer.

Very clever interpretation of train. You touch on something that I love in the original stories - that Watson is clearly Holmes's link to what it is to be human. Beautiful.

I am also amused by the fact that you ended with a b-word. ;)
