Previous 221b: Buried Alive

Today's prompt: faith

________________________________________________

Caring Is Not an Advantage

He is going to find me. I know he is. He always does.’

And it was true.

‘I just have to sit tight and wait. It doesn’t matter that no one knows where I am. What would he do in my situation? The rock they pushed in front of the opening is too heavy for one person to remove alone. He would check for another exit. I did. There is none.’

That makes him think of his four kidnappers, all taller than he is and way more heavy. They just grabbed him on his way home. He remembers their rough hands and mean laughter.

What do they want? It’s not about him, they didn’t hurt him (much) and if they wanted him dead he would be. Ransom money? No, they just want to get back at him.

He would’ve deduced so much more from them. Well, this wouldn’t have happened to him in the first place.

He hates that this keeps happening. Hates being a liability and a weakness for another person. Caring is truly not an advantage. He hears that often enough.

After a few hours he can hear them remove the stone. He is cold and frightened and though he desperately wants to be brave he is glad when strong arms wrap around him.

“There you are, little brother.”

Next 221b: Train of Thought

------------------
AN:
Today's prompt was 'faith'.

Also, the real challenge in this challenge is coming up with a title for every 221B. *argh*
I hate titles.

You keep on surprising me, you clever girl! Until the last line everything indicates that it's John's POV and that he thinks about Sherlock: admiration, trust, affection, slight inferiority complex... then you read the last words and you just have to read the whole thing again with a fresh look. Brilliant! I see this Sherlock as much younger, maybe a child, am I wrong? Anyway it's lovely to see him feeling this way about Mycroft and expressing what he feels, if only in his head. And I like protective!Mycroft very much. Bravo!

Pst! It's advantage, not adventage. (You're probably still under the influence of your Advent calendar!) And are you sure about the post-war trauma warning? :-)

Oh, I am sooo glad that worked! *beams*

And yeah, I see this happening somewhen in Sherlock's childhood. :)
But it might be possible even in his adult life. Not that he'd ever admit to it. *lol*

Oh, that is really, really clever! I was reading it with alternates in my mind just because I'm getting wise to your tricks, but I still wasn't sure until right at the end - really well done!

I was sittin' right next to you when you wrote this—and I still can't believe how quickly they come to you sometimes—and when you told me the ending I may have squealed so loudly I frightened the dog.

I think this could totally be relevant to either child or adult Sherlock—in some ways he's *always* going to be little brother to Mycroft, no matter how grown-up they get.

I adore so much what you do with these prompts and am endlessly impressed with your brain.

Sometimes I sit here and wonder if I will still have ideas when we reach month 5 or 7 or 12. *argh*

Three hundred and twenty five thousand words after first starting writing John and Sherlock fiction I can tell you without even one bit of doubt that you will have more ideas than you have time when you reach months five and seven and twelve.

Please trust me on this. Really.

In the meantime: You're amazing.

The reader is in safe hands with you. You lift us up, and we ride the wave, and you set us down safe in the sand. Thank you. (i always save the B word for last. But I always wonder what it will be.)
