Previous 221b: The Gift

Today's prompt: healing

________________________________________________

Time Doesn't Always Heal

There are wounds you don’t see.

Wounds caused by not being accepted by your parents or by other children, by being on your own for all your adult life, by harsh remarks, by being rejected over and over again, by the fear of staying alone forever.

Most people have one or two of them. Sherlock had them all.

Some of the smaller wounds started to heal when he met Mrs Hudson and some when he became sort of friends with Lestrade.

But the deep ones, the life-threatening ones that never stopped bleeding, no one could heal. Until a man called John came along.

He healed those wounds one after the other, some just by being there, others by being his friend and still others by becoming his lover.

The biggest, deepest wound he healed when he dropped to his knees with a ring in his sweaty palm and Sherlock realised that he actually meant it when he said that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with him.

There were going to be new wounds, minor ones cast by others and the more serious ones cast by one another. But right now the two men who were staring at each other in delighted amazement, one kneeling, one standing, hearts beating rapidly, were both healed and whole – and completely breathless.

'There were going to be new wounds, minor ones cast by others and the more serious ones cast by one another.'

Do you know how brilliant that line is? How utterly right and necessary it is to acknowledge that they are going to hurt one another, that the worst wounds coming will probably be one to the other? That's bloody brilliant Anarion as is this, another small wonder of a story.

Good lord.

I always feel like saying 'thank you' after reading a comment like this is not enough. Because hearing that I wrote something brilliant and utterly right from someone like you, it touches me.
[And by 'someone like you' I don't mean another author whose writing I appreciate (though that is a nice side effect), but a friend, whose opinion I value, because she is clever and wonderful.]
So, thank you. :)

the worst wounds coming will probably be one to the other
Which is why writing the 'brave' prompt was easy.

Stop it! You can't just tear me up again and again. How can you write such beautis day after day? Thank God I have a bronchitis and the tissues at hand.

I really want to say that I'm sorry, but since I teared up while writing I think it's only fair that you did while reading. ;)

I AM sorry to hear that you are ill though! Get better soon!
Today's 221B might help. *ahem*

First I read your title and I prepared for the worst (I don't mean for a bad fic of course, I mean for a horribly sad one!); then I had a look at your AN and your sobbing and I prepared for the worse-than-the-worst; then I saw your current mood and thought, "Sadist." :D THEN I read the fic and went, "Eeeeeee!" (because of the proposal) and, "Phew!" because of the happy ending. Yay for the happy ending!

It's very touching, especially Most people have one or two of them. Sherlock had them all. I liked The Gift very much and this one is also about all the things John brought Sherlock, and you write beautifully about that. There's just, er...
*looks at the more serious ones cast by one another*
*looks at you with concern*
Not too much angst, all right? :D

Tee-hee!
You should never assume things without enough facts. (Or something like that...)

Thank you again for a lovely comment! <3

All this emotion - I can't stand it! It's just too beautiful and emotional and gorgeous.

Don't EVER stop it.

*pats gently* There, there.

Today's ficlet will be a little breathing pause, before we go back to the drama. ;)

Thank you so much for your wonderful words. And the tears. I treasure them. <3

You gave me a bit of a fright with that title - and then it turned out to be such a lovely piece.

This (almost) neverending flow of daily new little stories about John and Sherlock is really great!

You were not the only one apparently. Sorry for the fright, I didn't mean to do that. I just hate coming up with titles and that was the only thing I could think of.

Glad that you enjoyed the story afterwards! :)

Oh, this is just beautiful. The whole thing with John is gorgeous in ways that others have identified but I also love that you credited Mrs Hudson and Lestrade too. Really, really lovely :D

I second Atlin's favorite lines. Very poignant and sweet.
