Advent Calender: Day 1
Dec. 1st, 2011 09:11 amThis is an Advent calendar filled with 221Bs, brought to you by
Apart from the overall Christmasy theme we decided to refer to the previous 221B so that there will be a story in the end. Let's see how that works out.
A happy pre-Christmas season to all of you! :)
“Oh, I know that one!”
Lestrade slammed his hand down on the table, everyone else far too stunned by his outburst to make a move.
It was the first of December and the heavy snowfall had taken all of them by surprise while they were wrapping up the last case – snowed in at NSY. Luckily Sally had whipped out a board game from somewhere.
“Hang on. How can you know that?” Sally eyed him suspiciously.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“Well, I am pretty sure Sherlock knows, what with being a brilliant freak and so on. And Doctor Watson probably knows since he is a medic. But you?”
“And what about me?”
“Anderson, you haven’t answered a single question of the game so far, what makes you think anyone would believe you capable of answering this?”
Sherlock did not even bother to look at Anderson, instead he watched Lestrade curiously.
“How do you know it?”
“I feel a funny and possibly embarrassing story coming up.” John grinned.
“Ok, fine. I watched a movie recently where it was mentioned and I got curious. I was pretty sure they had made it up.”
Laughter around the table.
“You were doubted, so you have to prove your knowledge. What is the chemical element with the atomic number 4?”
“Beryllium.”
---------------
AN: Yep, I made that game up. Basically a question is asked and you have to shout if you know the answer (or pretend to know it). The others can either believe you or question you. If you really knew the answer (or lied convincingly, so that no one questions you), you get a point. If you lied, the other gets one. It probably needs more rules to work, but you get the idea. ;)
Also the movie mentioned by Lestrade is one of my favourites. Do Beryllium Spheres ring a bell, anyone? ;)
1000 kisses to
.

Date: 2011-12-02 02:55 am (UTC)Seriously, I have heard of many collaborations in fic, but this one is the best idea anyone has ever had. Yes, I am a Christmas dork and therefore not at all objective, but this is great!
I love the story, and I love the idea of them being stuck at Scotland Yard. That game sounds like a lot of fun, and it's something my friends and I would love to play. Look at you, all smart and fabulous and inventing terrific games! Poor Anderson who didn't answer anything, but I'm sure it's a strategic move somehow. I also love that Sally called Sherlock a brilliant freak :D
I am so excited for the next stories, it's ridiculous!

And I missed you and your funny/clever/thoughtfull comments.
Look at you, all smart and fabulous and inventing terrific games!
If only I could somehow make money with it. ;)

Please tell me you didn't have to look that up. That would make the whole amazing comment absolutely unbeatable!

Date: 2012-06-21 12:57 pm (UTC)There is a game like this, or similar. It's about words. A word is given and everyone writes a definition. Points are awarded for the most convincing (or funny, or some house rules go for suggestive) definition. It's a fun game, except for if you have a (ahem) good vocabulary it's really really hard to make up fake definitions for words you already know.
