Title: The science of love
Words: 221
Rating: PG
Pairings : Sherlock/John
Disclaimer: Sadly the characters are not mine and no money is made (that would be amazing!).
Summary: Does he realise that love can’t be studied scientifically?
The science of love
Sherlock is a scientist in heart and mind. Emotions confuse him and make him uncomfortable.
Which is why he avoided them all his life.
Until a certain ex-army doctor crash-landed in his emotional wasteland and started planting a fucking tropical rainforest of emotions.
When John first tells him that he loves him, Sherlock does not believe him. But John, despite not being a scientist, knows exactly how to prove it – with empirical facts.
And Sherlock discovers that emotions aren’t always confusing or complicated.
Sherlock is a scientist. He believes that a fact once stated does not need to be repeated until it is falsified. So imagine his confusion when he finds a note stuck into his laptop after their first night together that just says ‘I love you.’
He doesn’t ask about it, merely observes the two of them.
He discovers that he’s feeling like something with small wings is on the loose in his stomach every time John tells him. And he notices the light that shines in John’s eyes every time Sherlock tells him.
Does he realise that love can’t be studied scientifically?
Anyway, you can be sure to find that first note from John, time-worn from frequent touching, sticking out of the pages from whatever book Sherlock is reading, be it books on bees, bruise patterns or botany.

All right, keep on writing adorable things like this and I may forgive you for dropping the Sunday series for the time being. :D

Date: 2011-11-22 08:14 am (UTC)Then I saw the dedication and new warm fuzzies! I pet Anarion's head and I say thank you sweetie and I'm feeling better except the parts of me that are still feeling ill (two colds in two weeks when I haven't had any for two years? sigh).
I am so glad you're prolific, have I said that lately? Love reading your stuff, I never know what to expect and that's brilliant.

Date: 2011-11-22 03:15 pm (UTC)Haha, someone actually wrote me a message saying 'Oh, hey. I know which sentence you took from atlinmerrick. It's Until a certain ex-army doctor crash-landed in his emotional wasteland and started planting a fucking tropical rainforest of emotions.
That's so her!'
And I was like 'Nope, all mine. Sorry.' And then I contemplated to pout for a while, before I realised that someone mistaking my sentences for yours? Not that bad. *lol*
It's probably because of the swearing. ;)
I am very happy that you liked my little homage to your Bs and that I manage to surprise you! *happy dance*
Thank you! <3

"He discovers that he’s feeling like something with small wings is on the loose in his stomach every time John tells him. And he notices the light that shines in John’s eyes every time Sherlock tells him."
YESSSSS. That is SCIENCE. Let us all BOW BEFORE ITS EMPIRICAL MIGHT.
"Anyway, you can be sure to find that first note from John, time-worn from frequent touching, sticking out of the pages from whatever book Sherlock is reading, be it books on bees, bruise patterns or botany."
So sweet. Just heart-rendingly sweet. I love what you do with these men. And, erm, what they do with each other. Well done.

Date: 2011-12-02 02:42 am (UTC)There's something about using post it notes to communicate affection that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I have a plot bunny that's been running around in my head for a while that would involve that, but it's still in the foetus stage. Anyway, this was incredibly sweet, I love stories that explore Sherlock dealing with new emotions, and this one was utterly lovely. As you are, too.
