Summary: ‘365 days of 221Bs’ challenge: a prompt a day, given by [ profile] atlinmerrick. Day 365.

Previous 221b: Stop, look, and listen

Today's prompt: depression

It’s the end of the world as we know it

Of course he knew the exact date.

He knew that Mycroft’s people had compiled a file on John H. Watson within minutes after they met for the first time. He never felt the need to read it, because he could see all he wanted to know when he looked at John.

He stole the file from Mycroft’s office five hours after John kissed him for the first time because suddenly he needed to know.

He tried to remember what he had done that day, because certainly something this big, this profound, this life-changing could not start without him knowing, without him feeling at least something.

But no. There had been no premonition, no boding sign, no change in his perception of the fabric of space and time, that told him that everything - everything - was about to change. For him it had been a day like every other.

Meanwhile for John H. Watson the life he had known so far had ended in pain and blood somewhere on the Afghan sand.

But while one of them had thought that everything was over and the other had thought that nothing would ever change, the universe had smiled at the two delicate threads that were about to be woven together into an incredible tapestry, a journey that was just about to begin.

Next 221b: ...

The prompt was 'depression'.

OMG. Day 365. We actually made it that far!
Also: 81,322 words! Good Lord, I wrote a fucking novel.

Thanks to all of you for reading, commenting, cheering, laughing, crying, criticising, typo-finding, hand-holding and generally being there!
Special thanks to my dear friends Verity Burns, Ariane DeVere, Rox and Choco for actually being there the whole fucking ONE AND A HALF YEARS!!! <3
And of course to the most important person: Atlin Merrick. Wonderful, fabulous friend, who pushed me out the door into this amazing journey, I couldn't have done this without you. Thank you! Look at what I did thanks to you and that one crazy idea born on a sunny morning on my balcony. I love you! *fierce hug*

And last but not least: This challenge might be over, but I am far from done with this verse! I still have a few 221Bs already written and I'm sure Atlin still has her prompt sheet ready. So don't be sad, it's not over. I don't think it will ever be over. :D
But first the Advent Calendar will be back. Starting tomorrow actually!

…and another thing…

No, just the same thing. Wow. Just wow. Also wowowowowowow. I have read this three times. I have read this to Kate. I am probably going to read it to the dog we don't have.

*Happy sigh*

Thank you Anarion, thank you for taking on this challenge and completing it with such beauty.

Anarion had already a "Verity made me" tee-shirt, she now has a new one: "Atlin made me. 365 times." :D

What Atlin said.

God, this is perfect. PERFECT.

What a fantastic way to round off what has been an absolutely exceptional journey.

Thank you for taking up this challenge, my very dear Anarion. It's been an utter joy!

*reads the title and the prompt*
Oh no Anarion, don't be like that, it's not the end of the world, you'll write other fics and we'll write other comments and yesterday you told it would be an angst story but I didn't think it would be so awful and...
*reads the fic*
Ah, okay. :D

But while one of them had thought that everything was over and the other had thought that nothing would ever change, the universe had smiled at the two delicate threads that were about to be woven together into an incredible tapestry, a journey that was just about to begin.
Aaah, that's a glorious ending, with something epic in the tone that is very appropriate to the conclusion of such a considerable challenge. I also love that it sounds we've come full circle, it could be the first 221B of the series, we can see this incredible tapestry, this journey that was just about to begin as your challenge as well as Sherlock and John's lives. And I'm very glad that, as usual, you don't do what you're expected to do and you use such an alarming prompt this way; it's all about hope and a new beginning. I love that!

*sees she's in the special thanks*
*beams at you*
Yes, I've been here since the beginning and oh my God it was tedious. I hope you realise that reading all this fluff and all this porn, all this witty banter and all these evil cliffhangers, all this funny/moving/thrilling stories (and sometimes even angst!) was a real chore. I only did it because I'm a polite person and a loyal friend. And it's only for this reason that I'll keep on reading and commenting your fics. Self-sacrifice, I have it.

I don't think it will ever be over.
Maybe my favourite line in the fic! :D I'm so happy you feel like writing Sherlock again, after a period of doubt. Yay for the Advent calendar and for all that's to come! (No, it's not a pun.) That prevented me being a bit sad when I saw the "Next 221b: ..." thing, with its ellipses all empty and forlorn. (Yes, I know I'm anthropomorphising ellipses, that's the way I am.) (By the way, the link leads to yesterday's fic, I guess it's a mistake but I prefer to think you did it on purpose and you mean the story will never end.)

Congratulations, you brilliant writer, and see you tomorrow for a new adventure! :-)

Here, at the (not really) end, let me tell you that your comments are my very favorites :)
They're so funny and clever. The things you notice, the way you look at them adds to the storys. I'm glad I'm able to read them (and Anarion is lucky to have you)!

You know I avoided this today, because it made me sad to think that it would be the last (even if I'm damn proud that you wrote it under my roof!). But all is well, because you will write more of this.

And then I read it... Woman, I adore you! This is so beautiful and sad and full of hope. Yeah. Good, this is good.

Oh, sweetheart, many many congratulations on finishing this epic work. I hope you're feeling proud and full of achievement, and not just sad that it's done. It's been a magnificent effort, and you deserve a million hugs for persevering for so long.

You are a legend amongst Sherlock writers.

So this is the end. And as far as ends go, this is a perfect and beautiful one (and the best is that this is not the end, not really). I just love it, and yeah, I can feel what Sherlock felt, why he felt that something just HAD TO happen that day. But of course, nothing happened (with him, at least ;)) caus that's life. You realize big changes afterward.

Last Chrismas you wrote that there'll be 221B every other day because of the Advent Calendar, and now there will be the Advent Calendar, and no 221B, at least not this challenge. Strange.

You're amazing, really!!! 365 perfect little pieces. You built an excellent universe and after so many tale told, there's still so much left. You really know them, you really live with them, you can write them perfectly!!! I adore you for your talent, persistence and consistence!!! Wrighting this, no matter what real life throws at you, and in this quality, really I take my hat of to you!!!

I remember, there was that awfull class, a bit more than a year ago, and I just needed something that keep me alive and I found so much more than that, when I find this challenge. And now we translate it with my friends (unfortunately we aren't as productive as you, but still) it's so much fun! And yesterday I came home to nonexistent internet connection, but now I'm here to thank you for all the joy and inspiration you gave me! So nagyon szépen köszönöm <3

You know, in my head yours is the perfect Johnlock universe. Really. I read lots of Johnlock, and there is some utterly brilliant, but for me this is the perfect way for them, to be in love :) And the same goes for you Mycroft-Sherlock-childhood illustration! It's so hard to choose, but maybe my very fav of this 365 is The Cat Is Out Of The Bag <3 And I love the way you write Lestrade, and everyone in general.

And I'd like to thank you, Atlin Merrick Verity Burns, Ariane DeVere, Rox and Choco as well, cause I just loved to read your comments, they were just great!

Uhh, this comment is long enought already, but as I've read this last piece, a song came to my mind. I think in some ways the lyrics fit their relationship.

I can't believe it's over! I know I still have to catch up with quite some of them (lucky me!) but's over now and I still remember when you were within the first ones.

Oh, and what a perfect wonderful lovely last one on this series!!

But while one of them had thought that everything was over and the other had thought that nothing would ever change, the universe had smiled at the two delicate threads that were about to be woven together into an incredible tapestry, a journey that was just about to begin.
This brought tears to my eyes, I swear it's true. Two Delicate Threads. How utterly beautiful!!!

Thank you for taking us in this journey ♥
