Three brave huntsmen

John leaned back against the trunk of the tree, felt the rough bark against the palm of his hand and reached down with the other to pull Lestrade up to the deerstand as well.

Sherlock’s head appeared from above and he looked down critically.

“You make far too much noise. Every deer in the vicinity will have heard you and be gone.”

Lestrade sat down next to John and snorted.

“You remember that we are not here to actually hunt some poor deer, right?”

“Yes, I am well aware. But we are trying to uphold the appearance that we are in fact here to hunt. So please keep quiet and still.”

Lestrade eyed the hunting rifle Sherlock was holding.

“Is this old thing even working?”

“No,” John cut in. “Otherwise he wouldn’t be the one to hold it.”

“I feel oddly reassured. Now what?”

“Now we wait.”

And wait they did. Hours after hours, with only the moon as a pale companion. The suspect never showed. Neither did any animal, except an owl, that cried so loud that Lestrade almost fell from the tree.

***

Hours later, on their way back, Lestrade suddenly grabbed John’s arm.

“What is that? A badger? Aren’t they dangerous?”

“Very,” Sherlock snarled, disappointed by the failed venture.

John patted Greg’s arm.

“Relax, that is a beaver.”

Hey, welcome back Weltenbummlerin!

Now explain the "threesome" tag!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this vile tag. I don't know where Anarion was this week and what she did but I'm a bit worried about the development of this series. :D

Welcome back!

“Is this old thing even working?”
“No,” John cut in. “Otherwise he wouldn’t be the one to hold it.”

That. Just that. John Watson, bad arse, does not arm his crazy-arse boyfriend with working weapons. Essentially he gives him toys. Toy guns. Because Sherlock, as we all know, is six.

We missed you!

I love the image of excited Sherlock (being simply Sherlock of course;) and calm and assertive John, in the dark, in hunters uniforms;)) I'm afraid we'd all be six in such circumstances;))

*giggles* Very credible. Anyway Sherlock doesn't need a rifle to hunt deer, he just needs a deerstalker to throw at them. :D

*looks at the tags*
*gasps in horror*
THERE IS A "THREESOME" TAG. WHY IS THERE A "THREESOME" TAG? WHY DO YOU EVEN NEED A "THREESOME" TAG? ANARION, WHAT HAPPENED IN THIS DEER STAND? WHEN YOU SAY with only the moon as a pale companion, YOU MEAN THE SATELLITE, DON'T YOU?

Lol :D
And if it's Mycroft's satellite, we'd need a FOURsome tag instead ;)

And yes, you were missed Anarion. Very.

Of course, you were missed very severely. Only you can write such a charming little story that ends with "beaver" :)
